Emergency Numbers and Useful Contacts
A quick guide to emergency numbers and useful contacts to be used within Malaysia.
Malaysian Emergency Response Service (MERS) 999 is the Government’s initiative to consolidate all emergency numbers in Malaysia into a single hotline for public convenience, covering all types of emergencies such as the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Ministry of Health, Civil Defence Department and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency. Calls are answered by 123 professional emergency officers (PEO) within 10 seconds. Before redirecting a call to the relevant emergency agency, the PEO would first ask the caller general questions such as the type of emergency, location of the incident, and contact number to verify the legitimacy of the call.
Alternatively, 112 is the standard emergency number globally which could be made from a mobile phone, regardless whether the mobile phone has credit, is barred, or locked. Note that calls can only be made if there is a network connection. All 112 calls would be redirected to 999 Response Centres.
Do take note that both numbers do not work on mobile phones without an active SIM card. Source: The StarService | Dial |
