Fast Foodscapades: A Sunway Tale
One fine Sunday afternoon, you find yourself craving for some fast food classics (thanks to the show you were watching late last night). You can’t seem to narrow them down, but one thing you do know is that there are a plethora of famous fast food chains within Sunway City Kuala Lumpur – ranging from Korean fried chicken to classic burgers and fries.
You were still deciding on which to go as you slowly drifted off to sleep…
A&W
Speciality: Hotdogs and their Signature Root Beer Floats
You are greeted by Rooty the Great Root Bear’s welcoming smile. “Looking for a fast and easy place to eat?” he asked with raised eyebrows.
As if on demand, your mouth drools over the aroma of root beer and delicious coney dogs – triggering memories of the past where your parents used to bring you here as a kid. You take a seat and order a beef coney hot dog covered with their signature coney sauce and of course, their waffles and ice-cream!
Fun fact: A&W Root Beer is older than sliced bread! The first glass of A&W Root Beer was poured in 1919, while sliced bread was introduced to the world in 1928.
4Fingers
Speciality: Sweet and Savoury Boneless Chicken and Chicken Wings
You suddenly find yourself in a completely different location – locking eyes with two cows holding a sign reading “Find perfection in any of our burgers, sandwiches, seafood and salads!”
You walk towards them and realise that they are promoting 4Fingers – their signature Soy Garlic and Hot & Spicy crispy chicken in particular. Who can resist tender chicken wings? You are enveloped by the blend of sweet and savoury flavours, and you squirm with delight.
Fun fact: 4Fingers is a Singaporean brand — not Korean or American!
Burger King
Speciality: Thick and Juicy Burgers with Top Notch Meat Patties
Just as you think to yourself, “You know what sounds really good right now? A signature whopper from Burger King!”
You are suddenly transported to Burger King – a feast of specialty burgers, onion rings, cheesy fries laid out in front of you. You take a quick bite and taste the exquisite flame-grilled beef, tomatoes, crisp lettuce, onions and crunchy pickles on a toasted sesame seed bun. This must be heaven!
Fun fact: The Whopper was created in 1957, the same year Malaysia gained independence!
Jollibee, KFC, and Jinjja Chicken
- Jollibee’s Speciality: Brown Sauce Perfectly Paired with Fried Chicken
- KFC’s Speciality: Secret Blend of Herbs and Spices
- Jinjja Chicken’s Speciality: Authentic Korean Street Food Made by Malaysians
Before you had the chance to take a second bite, you are suddenly faced by three fictional characters whom you recognise to be the red blazer bee with a chef hat from Jollibee, the iconic Colonel Sanders from KFC, and a hen in a red sweatsuit who turns out to be Jinjja Chicken’s mascot. The realisation hits you – this is a battle of the fried chicken!
Jollibee introduces their fiery breaded Spicy Chickenjoy, perfectly marinated and breaded to perfection. It’s not a complete meal without their signature Jolly Sweet Spaghetti, served with a sweet tomato sauce.
Colonel Sanders of KFC offers you their finger lickin’ good chicken buckets, burgers, nuggets, tenders, and even a sotong bakar combo collection – all made with 11 secret herbs and spices to obtain the optimal flavour profiles. You feel spoiled for choice.
Last but certainly not least, Jinjja Chicken tears your attention away with a menu of classic Korean cuisines such as their best-selling Korean fried chicken and Jjajangmyeon. They even have dishes like tteobokki and bibimbap, prepared with traditional methods to preserve the authenticity. In the moment you were about to make your pick, you disappeared.
- Jollibee started off as an ice-cream shop in the Philippines.
- Back in 2015, KFC launched their own game called “Colonel Quest”.
- Jinjja Chicken is inspired by South Korea’s rich and speedy food culture — literally making it a FAST food restaurant.
McDonalds
Speciality: Extensive Array of Different Burgers for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
You would recognise Ronald McDonald anywhere. In seeing him, your nose filled with the incoherent scents of fries, burgers, ice-cream, and lattes blended together, making an unbelievably coherent, mouth-watering scent. You instinctively order a Big Mac, Spicy Chicken McDeluxe and the famous Ayam Goreng McD – all your favourites.
Fun fact: McDonalds is the world’s largest toy distributor – distributing over 1.5 billion toys worldwide.
Taco Bell
Speciality: Healthy Wraps, Burritos, and Tacos Perfect for Anytime of the Day
Woof-woof!
You find yourself led by a Chihuahua named Gidget to the bright and Californian Taco Bell. You glance over the menu and feel overwhelmed by their selections! You finally land on a Crunchwrap Supreme, Grilled Stuffed Burrito with some Loaded Nachos piled with warm nacho cheese sauce – yum! You enjoy your meal alongside your new furry friend Gidget.
Fun fact: Taco Bell’s Chihuahua, Gidget, starred in the movie ‘Legally Blonde 2’.
Texas Chicken
Speciality: Honey-butter Biscuits Paired with Big Pieces of Fried Chicken
Getting used to the “teleportation”, you then land in Texas Chicken, and you are surprised to find your loved ones there! You share Mexicana Burgers, wraps, fried chicken, and of course – the famous honey-butter biscuits. Churchie the mascot shares that the biscuits are made from scratch and drizzled with honey butter fresh from the oven. The warmth of the food translates into a homey memory in the making.
Fun fact: Texas Chicken is more commonly known as “Church’s Chicken” and only referred to as “Texas Chicken” in certain countries, including Belarus, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Iraq, and New Zealand.
