You love the ‘80s. From funky eclectic fashion to infectious classics from Duran Duran and Wham! – you believe that you’re “the Chosen One”, honoured with the task to preserve the love for ‘80s pop culture. When the news dropped of an eighties-themed roller skating rink, you instantly made plans to visit. Lucky for you, roller skating is a thing you’ve picked up.

Let’s get physical, physical!

As you enter the rink, you’re instantly transported to the vibrant and energetic era. Neon lights and decor adorned with wild patterns and geometric shapes capture the essence of the ‘80s. “Physical” by Olivia Newton-John plays, enticing skaters to glide and groove to the pulsating beats of the era's iconic tunes. The air is filled with a nostalgic blend of music, laughter, and the rhythmic clatter of skates on the polished surface, and you can’t help the wistful smile on your face as you skate effortlessly with others around you.

Looking for Love

You’ve got your skate shoes strapped on, and you’re ready to take on the skating rink. You see a few couples holding onto each other as they try not to slip, and your heart fills with envy. “When will it be my turn?”, you think to yourself.

Despite the cute couples, you are in awe of every corner of the rink – decked with vibrant furnishings and retro aesthetics – you have to get some cute pictures for the 'Gram! While foolishly struggling to take the perfect selfie, someone taps on your shoulder and offers to help. You turn, pleasantly surprised to see a young stranger (read: they’re’s cute!) extending their hand to you.

A self-proclaimed Sk8te City expert, your newfound photographer leads you to various photogenic spots, snapping away with your phone. You pose under the neon ‘Let the Good Times Roll’ sign, between the dazzling palm trees around the Dancing Queen stage, and even within the vibrantly coloured A-Go-Go tunnel. Just when you thought this couldn’t get any better, they ask you for your number and socials! Looks like you’ve got a roller-skating date lined up for the future!

Made It Out of the Group Chat

Do you have one of those friend groups where you make plans to meet but it never materialise beyond the group chat? Well, it’s your birthday, and you finally decided to bring this group of friends to Sk8te City to try out roller-skating for the first time – no no-shows allowed!

All you need for a good time – amazing friends and roller skates!

Strapping on the roller skates, you lot gingerly step onto the smooth surface, wobbling and grasping each other's hands for support. It's a medley of triumph and stumble, with sporadic bursts of laughter and triumphant cheers echoing through the rink. You slowly gain momentum, discovering the joy of gracefully manoeuvring around the rink to the pulsating music of the ‘80s. Together, you form a synchronised dance with your besties, weaving in and out, twirling and spinning, relishing in the shared experience of conquering this new skill!

As the time flies, your friends decide to wind down at the Kedai Runcit Café by the rink. They rendered you the loudest Happy Birthday and you’re filled with gratitude for the fun day of laughter, camaraderie, and the thrill of trying something new. Best birthday ever!

Rookie Roller

For the longest time, you’ve yearned to pick up roller-skating. Ever since you’ve registered for a coaching session at Sk8te City at the affordable price of RM100, you’ve eagerly await this day. Just last night, you’ve been on a Youtube binge of roller-skate progression videos, inspired by the graceful art of gliding through the ground!

Take your pick – is it white, black, pink or blue skates?

As you’ve settled down by the lockers, you’re greeted by a friendly coach, leading you to a small group of three. Your heart pulses as your coach goes through the basics of roller skating with the group – on learning how to balance, how to move forward and break, how to avoid injuries and more. You can’t believe this – it’s actually happening!

For the next hour, your new coach teaches you and the other kids how to roller-skate using Sk8te aids. Even though you still fall a couple of times, the protective gear you wear makes sure that you leave with no bruises or scars. And by the end of the session, you’re able to semi-confidently navigate the rink!
